This fundamental knowledge is the foundation of your future progress to higher levels of studies.
Every student of Chines metaphysics must remember this advice:
You must have a sound knowledge and understanding of the basics because the knowledge of the basics is the foundation for future progess.
2. Next, you shall learn what are the necessary soft skills that a Chinese Metaphysician should possess.
I always teach my students that Chinese Metaphysics (CM) is highly esteemed and honourable subject and those practicing CM must uphold this noble profession.
The important soft skills are – integrity, honesty, ethics and morals.
There are other important sift skill knowledge imparted in the lessons.
3. What is Qi?
This is a perennially profound question that, as far as I know, not many so-called masters can answer affirmatively.
I shall teach the students to identify the different forms of Qi, and the methods to activate Qi, the students shall also be taught how to borrow ShengQi (robust lively Qi)
In this course, you shall also be taught how to see and feel Qi. I shall transmit to the students the traditional training methods to feel or to see Qi.
It is not easy for one to train and finally be able to see Qi. Only a small percentage of people can achieve that. But, there is a consolation out of this training – that even if you could not see Qi, you could possibly achieve a sensitive feeling of Qi.
4. One very important lesson in this course is a lesson in the category – Audit procedure. This lesson is titled – ‘Essential Observation skills’.
In this lesson I shall introduce to you two FengShui classic texts that contain very useful information to assist a professional FengShui consultant in his auditing.
The first classic text is called -- ‘Song of Deep Profound Observation of Phenomena (观物洞玄歌Guan Wu Dong Yuan Ge)’. It was originally a popular text used by MeiHua (Plum Blossom) divination practitioners.
The second text is a FengShui text is called -- ‘Deducing Yang House Ominous Violations (阳宅破犯中断 Yang Zhai Po Fan Zong Duan)’. This s purely a FengShui text used mainly by FengShui professionals.
This text appeared in one of the SanYuan FengShui classic called -- Mirroring Water from Heaven Classic通天照水经.
Also included in this lesson is a teaching on how to determine the health condition of the occupants in a house using only the eight guas as basis for deduction.
5. What is BaGua Fengshui? How do you use Bagua Fengshui?

Feng Shui / Clearing some doubts about BaGua Fengshui.
« on: June 24, 2025, 12:07:38 PM »
I had written an article to clear some doubts about BaGua fengshui. BaGua Fengshui is called by another name -- BaZhai fengshui.
From here-on, I shall only use the name BaGua fengshui, because that was originally named.
All of us who started out to study and practice fengshui, at one one time or another, might have read or heard some 'not-so-nice' comments about BaGua Fengshui.
What they did not know is that the available BaZhai Fengshui courses in the contemporary market is very basic and have many missing teachings.
I had studied Fengshui from traditionally trained Masters, and I was taught very deep teachings on BaGua Fengshui.
In all my years of practicing different forms of FengShui, I found the the simplest is the most profound.
attached is my article in Docx on -- Clearing some doubts about BaGua Fengshui.

Feng Shui / Why do you need Bazi in Fengshui
« on: June 19, 2025, 10:45:29 AM »
I posted this article in my FB and a few other FB Fengshui forums, before, and today reposted again to the same FB forums.
Here, I wish to share this with you all.
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
XUAN TIAN MEN FENGSHUI SCHOOL
WHY DO YOU NEED TO USE A PERSON’S BAZI WHEN DOING FENGSHUI?
In Chinese metaphysics, there is a phrase called, “Tian Di Ren San Cai” (天地人三才).
There are many different explanations or interpretations of this phrase coming from the different branches of Chinese Metaphysics. Here I shall write only in the context of Fengshui.
Before I go further, let me quote from ancient classics.
First, a quote from ShuoGua Zhuan of the Yijing:
昔者圣人之作《易》也,将以顺性命之理。是以立天之道曰阴与阳,立地之道曰柔与刚,立人之道曰仁与义。兼三才而两之,故《易》六画而成卦。分阴分阳,迭用柔刚,故《易》六位而成章。
Translation:
When the ancient sages composed the ‘Yi’, by it comply with the principles of life and fate. With this principle establishing Heaven’s way to describe Yin and Yang; Establishing Earth’s path to obtain the supple and the robust; establishing the way of Man to describe benevolence and righteousness. Simultaneously combining these three qualities and double it, thus ‘Yi’ six lines becomes a hexagram. Discerning between Yin and Yang, alternating the use of robust and supple, thus ‘Yi’ six lines formed a chapter.
Secondly, may I quote from MengZi, a philosopher, military strategist, YiJing scholar who wrote about this to describe a military essential……
孟子:
天时不如地利,地利不如人和。
Translation:
Even if you get the right timing and right season, it does not compare to getting the right landform.
Even if you get the right landform, it does not compare to getting the people’s heart and mind.
What MengZi is pointing out is actually telling the reader that three factors coming together is the only way to get things done successfully.
Lastly, a quote from SunZi, the military strategist.
(孫臏兵法) :
天時,地利,人和,三者不得,雖勝有殃
Translation:
Time, space and people, if we cannot get all three, even if victorious, it could still become unfortunate.
MengZi and SunZi, are both military strategists. When they made these quotes, they had this in mind:
• Tian Shi 天時as in Timing and season;
• DiLi 地利 as in the landform that is beneficial to fighting a battle;
• RenHe 人和 as in getting the support of the united people. (soldiers).
So, when we see this phrase coming from the military angle, we know that it still need to have the three ingredients in perfect unison to get the desired results.
Now let us go into the Tian Di Ren of Fengshui practice.
• Tian is Time,
• Di is space, and
• Ren is people.
Tian Di Ren in Fengshui can also be explained in many different aspects.
One example is, in the LuoPan – the DiPan Earth Plate. Each trigram governs three mountains. The mountains are Tian, Ren and Di.
In the real time practice of Fengshui, when we talk about Tian Di Ren, we must know that we are in fact using the three main ingredients to manage Qi for use by someone or by group of people.
If we do not have this three ingredients in unison and in used in harmony, then we could be like what SunZi said, “…..雖勝有殃 even if victorious, it could still become unfortunate.”
Fengshui Tian Di Ren:
The three main ingredients when doing Fengshui -- Tian Di Ren means;
• Tian as in Time…… Luck periods, seasons, climate, date and time
• Di as in landform… dragons, meridians, Xue, etc……
• Ren as in People… the person doing the Fengshui and people being affected
So, ultimately what does this mean?
It means to use the Fengshui LiQi (compass) methods combined with the Landform (forms and features), and including the Bazi of the person (client) involved, that contains information of the favored and abhorred elements.
Bazi, in plain words, is the life fate structure of a person, and in it has crucial information of what the person needs and what the person must avoid.
The element that a person needs is called the YongShen 用神.
The element that a person fears and must avoid is the JiShen 忌神.
Why the need to know the Yongshen and Jishen of a person before doing his Fengshui?
The answer is very simple and logical:
try to give him what he needs and try to prevent what he fears from affecting him.
You might say, Fengshui and Bazi are two different things.
Yes, they are two different subjects, but, Fengshui affects people.
Even though they are different subjects within Chinese Metaphysics, together they have a common philosophical basis from the YiJing. Both need and rely on one most crucial and essential ingredient -- Qi.
Qi is something that is very difficult to explain and understand. Those who had read my lesson on Qi, would know what I am talking about.
Everything on Earth relies on Qi. This reliance on Qi makes it imperative for Fengshui practitioners to understand that when you perform an audit and recommend remedies, you cannot run away from using Tian Di Ren and the three mandatory ingredients in your work.
Here are two examples on why Bazi is crucial in Fengshui work.
Example 1:
A Fengshui master, using Flying Stars Fengshui to do Fengshui for a client.
The Fengshui master did not see the clients Bazi and did not know the person does not like to have Fire qi come into his life in any way.
Assuming it is period 7. The Fengshui master chose a south facing house N3N3/S2S3, for him, even recommended the main door to be in the center façade with stars 7, 7 and 2.
All these are Fire stars and are the client’s most feared element………
do you suppose the client can live comfortably in that house?
Example 2:
Given fact 1: Owners A and B are very good and successful business people who had made money elsewhere. So, assuming business prowess is their forte, managing a business successfully is a done deal.
Given fact 2: one shop called shop X, same Fengshui, no changes done.
Owner A after losing money in a shop X, sold this shop to owner B.
After sometime, owner B started making money comfortably.
Does this mean the Fengshui of shop X is not suitable to Bazi of owner A and is more suitable to Bazi of owner B?
Or is it something else?

You cannot use fire. And wood is the last of your useful elements. What you need is metal and water.

SOFT SKILLS SERIES #1
INTEGRITY, ETHICS AND MORALS
Chinese Metaphysics practice, and especially Fengshui consultation, is an esteemed and sacred profession.
The consultant is perpetually ‘twisting’ the fateful energies that are affecting his clients. A good well trained Fengshui consultant should know that whatever life condition that we are now, is the result of our past Karma.
If we are enjoying life with minimum problems and obstacles, it only means that we had not done bad things in our previous life (or lives).
If we are suffering untold problems and obstacles, it could only mean that we had done many bad things, that are coming back to us as retribution.
Therefore, be afraid of Karma, and as a Fengshui consultant must practice and live a true and altruistic life style.
The personal character of a Fengshui consultant must –
• Be honest;
• Have integrity;
• Have ethics;
• Have morals.
When you practice and perform consultation work, there are few things that you can do and few things that you cannot do:
1. If in your professional opinion you cannot do a Fengshui job, or, you know that you cannot or do not have the skill to turn-around a bad Fengshui situation, DO Not take the job.
2. Never ever scare your clients with words or deeds, for your selfish desire to squeeze money out of them.
3. The main function of FengShui is to – ‘Enhance the auspicious and avoid the ominous’ (QuJi BiXiong 趋吉避凶). It is very difficult to ‘enhance the auspicious’ because there are many factors involved, but, ‘avoiding the ominous’ is much easier. Therefore, when you are in the midst of an audit, please do not speak too much about the ‘so-called bad things of the house’. This is because not all the ‘bad placement of furniture or any items’, can manifest into ominous happenings.

4. If your audit shows that the client’s house is extremely ominous and can bring disaster to the residents, or, if you feel that the house could be haunted, please, DO NOT try to do remedies.
a) There could be many reasons that your prescribed remedy might NOT work.
b) if the house IS haunted, it is not safe to anger the spirit residing in the house.
Therefore, it is best to advice your client to move away from that ominous house. However, you can offer your professional service to help him choose another safer and more comfortable house.
5. If you are also a Daoist White Magic or a Buddhist White Magic practitioner, then, for point #4, you may try to do something to help your client. But always remember to stay safe, because, some spirits are ferocious, and we as ordinary human beings, might not be able to counter their attacks. Please be warned.
6. If you are doing divination professionally, there are two jobs that you must not do, and there is one information from your divination, that you must not tell out straight away.
If a woman comes to ask for a divination to check whether her husband is cheating on her or not, DO NOT take the job;
If a man comes to ask for a divination to check whether his wife is cheating on him or not, DO NOT take the job;
If in a divination, you see your client is going to die soon, DO NOT tell him/her straight in the face. Use a diplomatic and courteous way to ‘advice’ him/her of her health issues.
Why is it adviced that you do not take the divination job for a wife checking on her husband’s fidelity, and a husband checking on his wife’s faithfulness?
There are two reasons:
a) if person being checked, comes from a gangster family, and he/she vehemently denies your divination and calls you a charlatan, you might end up being beaten or more seriously being killed.
b) if your divination is super accurate, and you accurately divined that the client’s spouse had cheated, and you told him/her the divination result, it could, in a simple and less serious manner, lead to their divorce. But what if either party has a violent streak, and your divination result, could cause either party to get violent, and kill the spouse, then, you had blood indirectly smeared on your hands.
Therefore, please be adviced.

Feng Shui / Soft skills
« on: June 17, 2025, 09:03:59 AM »
When I first started learning from my first Sifu, at the beginning, as he was teaching me hard skills, he also taught me soft skills.
Soft skills are very important in the skill-set of a Metaphysics consultant.
When I taught a course in Singapore, I only found out that most Fengshui academies either do not teach important soft skills or maybe just touch superficially on certain types of soft skills,
Here is how it happened:
Many years ago, I taught a course of GuiGuZi card divination in Singapore, and, at the beginning of the course, I talked about the important soft skills that a diviner should possess.
During the tea break two Singaporean students came up to me and told me that they were never taught these soft skills by the fengshui school that they been to.
This surprised me a bit because I thought that all fengshui masters who teach fengshui, bazi or divination, should have the knowledge of soft skills and should impart these skills to his/her students.
Anyway, fast forward to when I started to teach professionally. In every course that I teach, I would mention these soft skills -- that all metaphysicians should have.
What my first Sifu taught me was:
A Chinese metaphysician should have integrity, be honest, have ethics and morals, and must use his skills to help others.
That is why, until today, I followed his advice, and had done many Pro Bono jobs, especially for the poor and the unfortunate.
Having said all these, may I make another post -- a teaching on the type of soft skill mentioned here, and was taught to my students.
thank you.

Feng Shui / 一命,二运,三风水。1 Life-fate, 2 Luck, 3 Fengshui
« on: June 15, 2025, 11:40:43 PM »
Two days' back, I saw an FB post saying that Jerry King, an international Fengshui master, passed away after battling cancer.
Jerry King DOB: August 1st 1976 -- June 10 2025 (49 yrs old)
This morning, I received a message form an EU friend, saying that Howard Choy, another internationally known fengshui master, also passed away on the same day as Jerry King.
Howard Choy DOB 1949 X X -- 1June 10 2025. (79 yrs old)
In all my years of studying and practicing Daoism, Buddhism and Chinese Metaphysics, I had heard of many Fengshui practitioners dying young.
What I had learnt from my first master was 一命,二运,三风水。1 Life-fate, 2 Luck, 3 Fengshui.
Nobody can escape death, but how long can a person live?
Why does a famous Fengshui master die at 49 yr old?
Why does another, equally famous, die at 79?
First, it depends on their Life-fate (Bazi). Luck comes second and Fengshui comes third.
There is a Chinese saying:“阎王叫你三更死,谁敢留人到五更”.
This saying translates as: "Lord Yama, the god of death, wants you dead at the third hour, who dares make the person live till the fifth hour?"
The intrinsic meaning of this saying is that -- 'when you are fated to die, you shall die'.
But, strangely, I have experienced reading bazi of people supposedly to die at a certain period of time, but because of their conscientious religious practice, their lives were extended, a bit. Is it strange or is it fated?
So, friends, ......
Here is one advice that I always give to my students--
"Conscientiously build up a store of good merits to support your work as a Chinese Metaphysician."

Feng Shui / Re: Understanding the word XuanKong
« on: June 14, 2025, 09:28:46 AM »
Yes, one of the basic requirements in fengshui practice is to know and understand Yin and Yang.
Every Fengshui method has its pros and cons, but in modern days, some fengshui methods, when it comes to application of fundamentals such as Yin and Yang Qi, are not objective enough. Most are quite subjective in their application.
Having said that, I wish to point out that the original XuanKong Flying Stars fengshui as propagated by Jiang Da Hong and probably one or two generations of his students and grand-students were quite complete and comprehensive, in the sense that they place great importance on LuanTou (landform and forms and features of the surrounding).
When Sheng Ju Ren copied Zhang Zhong San's XuanKong flying stars practice notes, many important teachings and secret practices were not recorded in that note book. Zhang Zhong San is not stupid. He would not have given away his lineage secrets for a few taels of gold.
In my research into fengshui history, methods and practices, I dug out many important and 'damning' information (LoL) -- some are very interesting.
For example, the an important information that I researched and found out is that Yang Jun Song did not propagate XuanKong fengshui.
And XuanKong DaGua fengshui is only a few hundred years old!!!
I might write about this in future.

Feng Shui / Understanding the word XuanKong
« on: June 13, 2025, 01:20:20 AM »
Here is an article that I wrote many years ago, for my students. It is an information enlightening them about understanding the word XuanKong.
Most of my students had learnt FengShui from other masters, and I found out that they have very low knowledge of the Fundamentals and also because they do not know Chinese, their knowledge and understanding of certain terms in Metaphysics is very limited.
The article is as follows:
THE MEANING OF XUAN KONG 玄空
The word Xuan Kong 玄空, to many people might conjure up the thought of XuanKong Flying Stars Fengshui or XuanKong DaGua Fengshui.
This is understandable, because I found out from my interactions with foreign students, that, they have a very shallow understanding of the fundamental theories and principles of Chinese Metaphysics.
One of the ‘shallow understanding’ is that of the word XuanKong 玄空. It is understandable because the concept of XuanKong is very difficult to describe in plain words. It had even stumped many Oriental ‘masters’.
Here is a quote about the difficulty of understanding the word XuanKong玄空:
世人不见天机秘,浅破有何益, 泄今博深地中仙,玄空妙难言
Humans could not see the secrets of heaven,
What then, is the use of lightly leaking (the truth)?
Now to reveal the intrinsic essence to the Earth saints (Fengshui masters),
The word XuanKong is profoundly mystical and difficult to express.
Here I shall explain the word Xuan Kong玄空:
• Xuan 玄—can mean, black and mysterious, or profound.
• Kong 空—can mean emptiness, voidness, space, sky, air, etc….
When these two words are coined together, as 玄空, and used in Chinese Metaphysics, and, as it has appeared in many ancient writings of Metaphysics Classics, it conjures up a meaning of the – ‘Profound and Mysterious Voidness of the Space of the Universe’.
So, in future, whenever you come across this word XuanKong玄空, you would know it has the meaning as mentioned above.
What is the function of XuanKong in Burial Fengshui?
When burial, the idea is to bury or store the person’s body DNA in an auspicious place to absorb the good Qi, that, in turn is transmitted back to the person via the Mysterious Void called the Xuan Kong 玄空.

Translation
‘Great concern of Heaven and Earth is fixing Ci Xiong,
‘nobility and prosperity can be found within.”
‘Flipping the Heaven and overturning the Earth matching not the same,
the secret is in the XuanKong.’
‘Three Yang Water Exits ending in original flow,
prosperity and nobility forever no need to worry.’
The two Gods uphold the Three Auspicious Six Elegant,
instantly can see enter Temple hall.
Heaven here means Heaven Plate or Tian Pan double mountain for establishing Water Exits and also distant hills.
Earth here means Earth Plate or DiPan 72 Dragons for establishing Incoming Dragon and Xue spot, and riding ShengQi.
The word Ci Xiong means the Yin and Yang or the Male and Female aspect.
Therefore, this phrase means that it is through the connection of establishing the Water Exit and the Incoming Dragon and Xue that fixes the Yin and Yang of riding ShengQi.
And if it is done right, then ‘nobility and prosperity can be found within.”
‘Flipping the Heaven’ means not following or conforming to the rules of establishing the Water exits via the use of the TianPan;
‘Overturning the Earth’ means not using the 72 Dragons AiXing correctly.
‘the secret is in the XuanKong’ –
XuanKong here means the ‘Unseen Void’ or the ‘Mysterious Void’ where the mysterious workings of the Unseen creates that brings whatever auspiciousness when things are done right.
Therefore, based on this verse, the definition of XuanKong means that the correct interaction of Dragon (mountains) and Water (River) causes the ‘Creation of ShengQi.’ within the ‘Profound and Mysterious Voidness of the Space of the Universe’.
Three Yang Water Exits means the Dragon and water interaction exiting Mu, Jue and Tai palaces. If the water flows meandering slowly and smoothly out the three water Exits, then auspiciousness of prosperity and nobility is endless.
The Two Gods here means the Dragon God and the Water God.
The Three Auspicious and Six Elegant here is referring to the Qi phases of the 12 Growth Phase 十二长生 of ---
a) ChangSheng长生, LinGuan 临官 and DiWang 帝旺as the Three Auspicious; and
b) ChangSheng长生, GuanDai 官带, LinGuan临官, DiWang帝旺, Tai胎and Yang 养as the Six Elegant.
These Three Auspicious and Six Elegant are referring to the auspicious relationship between the Xue spot and the Distant Hills and the Crossing MingTang Water. Whenever these conditions are met, it is like ‘instantly can see enter Temple hall.’
This phrase ‘entering temple hall’ means auspiciousness because whenever someone enters a temple to pray it is auspicious.
Hope this article can enlighten your understanding of the word XuanKong.

Feng Shui / China's landform and its effects on ancient dynasties
« on: March 05, 2018, 08:14:44 AM »
Dear forumers,
I had translated this article for a Taiwan master couple of years back who posted in his website, and I had it posted in my blog for my followers to read:
www.moonchin.com.my
I am sharing it here with those who like Fengshui and landform.
...
以河川長短論中國建都及朝代興衰
A DISCUSSION BASED ON THE SIZE OF THE MAJOR RIVERS, ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CAPITAL CITIES AND THE RISE AND FALL OF CHINA’S ANCIENT DYNASTIES.
--- by Master Guo Fen Ling (Taiwan)
---translation by Moon L. Chin
摘要 ABSTRACT
This article is a research on the effects of landform on the duration of ancient dynasties in China.
China’s mountainous landscape is huge and vast. Its mountainous region in West is divided into 3 major ranges: the northern range, the central range and the southern range.
Among the three the central range is the largest, followed by the north range and lastly by the south range. Historically, many of China’s dynasties that established their capitals in cities within the central range region can last longer.
Those that established their capitals in the northern range had middling length of duration. Lastly those that established in the southern range had the shortest duration, some dynasties ended almost as soon as it had started.
Historical facts:
• There were 11 dynasties established in the central range with a total duration of 2553 years
• There were 4 dynasties established in the northern range with a total duration of 1023 years
• There were 8 dynasties established in the northern range with a total duration of 528 years
• The Shang dynasty established its capital in what is present day Guide city of Henan province totaling 644 years
• The Eastern Zhou dynasty established its capital in what is present day Luoyang city of Henan province with a length of 523 years, much longer than the Xia dynasty’s 440 years.
Other than this, cities such as Fenggao, Xian, Luoyang, Chengdu, Yedu, Kaifeng were also capitals of different dynasties, all of these were in the central range region. Especially Xian and Chengdu were used as a capital the many times, with durations of up to hundreds of years.
Capital cities that were established in the northern range are Anyi and Beijing. Among them the Xia dynasty capital in Anyi is the longest with duration of 440 years.
In the southern range there were Nanjing and Hangzhou. There were quite a number of dynasties that established their capitals in this region but most of their duration were short, only in the tens of years. The only exceptions were the Eastern Jin dynasty that lasted for 104 years and the Southern Song dynasty that lasted 153 years. These two were the only exceptional lengthy dynasties in the southern range.

This article’s main discussion point is on a dynasty’s rise and fall, its prosperity and decline, and the connection with the length of the mountain range and the accompanying rivers.
Yang JunSong said: “before observing the mountains, first observe the rivers”.
Water is the manifestation of Dragon Qi. By judging the volume of incoming water you can guess the dragon qi. Wherever there is water, there shall be dragon qi. Abundance of water equals abundance of qi, lack of water means qi is in decline.
The volume of water can tell whether the dragon is a main range or a branch range. If the water is long thus the dragon is also long. If the water is short, the dragon is also short.
Main ranges normally have large rivers accompanying. For example mainland China’s Yangtze and Yellow river had its origin in the Qinghai plateau’s Tanggula mountain, Gelandandong mountain and Bayan Har mountain.
Both rivers flow east into the sea. Since both river has similar origin, the water volume is also similar. Thus Yangtze has total length of 6380 meters is China’s longest river and Yellow river at 5464 meters long is the second longest.
Sandwiched between these two rivers is the largest and longest of the 3 main ranges – the central range. Historically, from Xia dynasty to Qing dynasty, kingdoms that established capitals in this central region had a total duration of 2553 years.
The Yalu river, originating in the south eastern part of JiLin province in the north, exits into the Yellow sea via Liaoning prefecture’s Dandong port city, is the northern most shore line of China.
Its total length is 795 meters. Sandwiched between the Yalu river and the Yellow river is the northern range. Historically, dynasties that established their capitals here had a total duration of 1023 years.
Guangdong province’s Zhujiang river has total length of 2400 meters, is China’s third longest river. The southern range is sandwiched between the Yangtze and Zhujiang rivers, and dynasties established here lasted a total of 528 years.
A DISCUSSION BASED ON THE SIZE OF THE MAJOR RIVERS, ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CAPITAL CITIES AND THE RISE AND FALL OF CHINA’S ANCIENT DYNASTIES.
Considering the Zhujiang is longer than the Yalu river and the southern range supposedly should be second only to the central range, so why was it that since the Qin dynasty, most of the kingdoms established in the south are shortlived?
Take Nanjing as an example: its ancient name was Jinling and was also called Jianye. It was in close proximity to the Yangtze that flows thousands of kilometers, so Nanjing’s position geographically should be thick with ‘heavenly son’ qi because of the thousands of kilometer mountain range.
Capitals established here should last a long time, but since the Qin dynasty, kingdoms that established their capitals in Nanjing are mostly short-lived. The researched reason is probably because of Qin Shi Huang ordered the dredging and opening up of the Huai river, thus causing the land luck to be changed. Therefore Nanjing’s ‘heavenly son’ qi was lost resulting in capitals established here cannot last long.

研究方法 THE RESEARCH METHOD
The research in this article, takes into consideration human factors or human influenced actions that changed the shape or features of the landform under discussion, thus changing the ‘land luck’. As an example: cities such as Nanjing, Kaifeng, etc. these are specifically discussed separately.
The rest of the ancient cities are discussed and categorized according to the mountain range it was located in. The evidence to prove this article are all listed out in the charts provided, that provides that dates of the rise and fall of the various dynasties.
Southern Tang dynasty’s imperial master He LinTong wrote a FengShui book 鐵彈子地理元機 (Iron bullet secrets of landform), and during the Ming dynasty era, a master YouGao commented on the section 形氣章 (form and qi chapter) and said: “Qin dynasty imperial master divined JinLing have got heavenly son qi, thus dredged (Qin) Huai (river) to deplete it”.
The meaning of this sentence is: during the reign of Qin Shi Huang, the imperial master in charge of astronomy and metaphysics, made a divination and found that JinLing (present day Nanjing) have got the power of very auspicious qi described as ‘heavenly son qi’, that is the suited as the abode of emperors, and surely can produce an extraordinary leader that can rule and unite the country. Qin Shi Huang wanted to rule the country all by himself and his descendants forever, thus he ordered for the dredging of the Huai river to deplete the heavenly son qi of Nanjing.
Why is it that the dredging of Huai river can deplete the ‘heavenly son qi’ of Nanjing? This is because the Huai river’s ‘Qi power source’ comes from its flow from the south east crossing the south and then towards the southwest on towards the west of Nanjing, and then meeting with the Yangtze river .
This conveniently cut off the qi meridian of the MaoShan, in the process it severed both of Nanjing’s embraces NiuTou mountain and Zhong mountain from its main qi meridian source MaoShan. In the end causing Nanjing city, that had a ‘thousand mile dragon meridian’ that could provide endless qi, unable to receive the noble qi because the meridian was cut-off .
Thus, although the Yangtze and Huai river confluence is like a belt protecting Nanjing, and its landform features looks sentimental, it could only enjoy the fortune wealth qi but unable to enjoy the noble qi that could enhance a dynasty power and influence for long time.
Ever since the opening of the Huai river cutting off Nanjing’s power qi meridian source, among the dynasties that established capital here, only eastern Wu and Eastern Jin dynasties lasted a bit longer with a total of 104 years combined.
A DISCUSSION BASED ON THE SIZE OF THE MAJOR RIVERS, ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CAPITAL CITIES AND THE RISE AND FALL OF CHINA’S ANCIENT DYNASTIES.
Although ZhuGe Liang and the father of modern China Sun Yat Sen had both praised the beautiful landscape of Nanjing, it is because they only see the external beauty but did not know about its (landform qi) deficiency that changed Nanjing’s land luck. Ever since, Nanjing could not be a country’s capital city that has the luck to last a long time. Thus one can see that the changes in landform shape and features, whether it is man-made or natural, can cause the land luck to be changed too.
Kaifeng city in Henan province was one of the ancient capital cities. Its ancient name was BianLiang, and was capital city for several dynasties: Warring states kingdoms Wei, Later Liang, Later Jin, Later Zhou, Northern Song and Jin dynasty. The city is hugging the northern entrance of the Huai river and is an important location. KaiFeng is located in the confluence of three rivers – Gulu river, Huiji river and Huai river. It was once a thriving prosperous city, but later the silting and clogging up of Gulu river, its prosperity waned and disappeared with it.
We can know from the above two examples: the changes in landform, irrespective whether natural or man-made also can cause the changes in land luck, and if a country’s capital is situated there, inadvertently the country’s luck cannot escape its effects.

A DISCUSSION BASED ON THE SIZE OF THE MAJOR RIVERS, ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CAPITAL CITIES AND THE RISE AND FALL OF CHINA’S ANCIENT DYNASTIES.
In conclusion, the longer the mountain range the further the fortune of the dynasty can last, and the shorter the mountain range the dynasty’s fortune becomes shorter.
