BaZi ShenSha
« on: April 13, 2024, 06:29:39 PM »
Hello!

I use ShenSha and was taught that you can use it to compare your structural energy with the global energy (energy of the general year or month). If you have X in your chart, in a certain pillar, and Y in the global year, you are affected by the combination. But if the positions are reversed, there is no effect.

example 01:  if you have Ding on your DAY stem and it's a Wu horse year, then you have  'Thriving'/Prosperity energy (the energy is coming to you).  If it's the other way around (you have Wu horse and it's a Ding year), you don't have it (the energy is moving away from you).

example 02:  If you have Si, Wu (horse), Wei on your DAY branch during a Chen year, then you have the Lonesome energy.  But if it's reversed (Chen on your Day branch and it is a Si, Wu or Wei year - You don't have lonesome energy.

I can understand the possibility of having a certain energy on different pillars in your structure, and the effects could still be possible (example 1, having Ding on a month or year stem). However, it seems unlikely that combining the energies (whether stems/animals), the result can go in both directions.

I've seen ShenSha readings that include combinations that go both ways. How does that work?

Thank you!

see my AI's point of view===>The perspective shared in the article has some validity within the context of traditional Chinese metaphysics, but I think it can be refined further. The idea of ShenSha (神煞) and the interaction between one's natal chart and global energy (like the annual or monthly energy) is central to many interpretations. However, I would add more nuance to the discussion.

### Key Points to Consider:

1. **Directional Energy Influence:**
The article suggests that when you have a certain element (like 丁 on the Day Stem) and the annual energy supports it (like 戊 in a Wu Horse year), you experience positive energy (Prosperity). However, when reversed, the energy moves away from you. This view emphasizes the "directional flow" of energy, which is a key part of ShenSha, but it's more dynamic than this binary explanation. Energy doesn't only flow toward or away from you; it interacts in more complex patterns, depending on the overall structure of the chart and how well elements support or counterbalance each other.

2. **Combination of Energy:**
The examples given point out that certain combinations, like 巳, 午, 未 with 辰, can result in "Lonesome" energy, but the reverse doesn't. This is plausible since some ShenSha combinations are directional by nature. For instance, energies like 桃花 (Peach Blossom) can manifest only in certain configurations, and when reversed, the effect diminishes. However, it's important to evaluate the entire chart, including timing and other factors (like luck pillars), to understand the full impact.

3. **Position of Elements:**
The article brings up a good point: certain energies in different pillars (e.g., 月干, 年干) can still influence the chart. For instance, if 丁 appears on the Month or Year Stem instead of the Day Stem, it could still generate a supportive or disruptive effect, depending on the surrounding factors. ShenSha systems, while useful, often need to be integrated with a more holistic approach, considering the Ten Gods (十神), interactions between the Five Elements, and the flow of qi (气).

4. **Two-way Combinations:**
The observation that some ShenSha readings allow for combinations to go both ways is interesting. Certain energies, especially those related to relationships (like 天乙贵人 or 天喜), can indeed work bidirectionally, offering support or relief depending on other factors in the chart. But generally speaking, ShenSha systems are usually seen as directional — meaning they manifest differently depending on which energies are "leading."

### My View:

While the directional nature of energy is a key insight, I would emphasize a more holistic and flexible approach. Energy interaction in BaZi or ShenSha isn't always rigid, and it's affected by the interplay of other elements, the timing of luck cycles, and the broader environment (Heaven, Earth, and Human factors). One should look beyond simple pairings and consider the chart's overall balance and whether the individual has support from useful gods (用神) or elements that harmonize or clash with the annual or monthly energies.

Also, I believe that even when combinations appear "reversed," they may still have subtle impacts — just not as directly or dramatically as in the more "aligned" cases.

Hi DZ-birdie,

I am a little confused by what you call the "global energies". Are you referring to the year pillar elements or the current year (as in 2024)?

I have seen the Sha-Shen defined in different ways. They are generally defined by the Day Stem, Day Branch, Year Branch or the Month Branch. There are other correspondences.

My understanding is that Prosperity Star is defined by the Day Stem. For Ding on the Day Stem, The Prosperity Star is defined as Wu (fire). Wu can appear in any branch, or in the LP or AP branches. When Wu appears, the chart is said to express the attributes of the prosperity star. There is no reversal. You either have it or you don't.

The Solitude Star is defined from either the Year Branch or the Day Branch. If you have Chen in the year or day, then Si is defined as the Solitude Star. If Si appears in the natal chart, the LP or AP, the attributes of this star may be expressed.
I have seen for Chen in the Year or Day - the appearance of Si, Wu, Wei can represent the Solitude Star.

I hope this helps clarify some things.

Hi all,

In QZSY, especially in the older, Pre-Mongol era, a more ancient form of BaZi—which predates the ZiPing style—was used alongside QZSY. This older version of BaZi utilized ShenSha extensively, though it wasn't typically used as a standalone technique; snapshot techniques were also present in this system.

In this ancient BaZi framework, the year pillar held significant importance, as it determined many major ShenShas. For example, if someone is born in a 甲子 year, the 申子辰 formation uses 寅 as the 马 star. Since 寅 is a wood branch, the Wood Star (Jupiter) is designated as the (Status) 贵元. Additionally, 甲 uses 寅 as 禄, meaning Jupiter also represents (Wealth) 禄元. Since 甲乙 corresponds to wood, Jupiter is also known as the 仁元 (Fame). The 甲子 nayin is Metal, which means Venus is termed the 寿元 (Longevity).

Thus, just from the year branch, we derive four ShenShas of primary importance, known as the Four Yuans or 四元. For a 甲子 year, it's essential to examine Jupiter and Venus thoroughly in the QZSY astrological chart: is Jupiter in a favorable or unfavorable house? Is it conjunct or aspected by positive or negative planets? What good or bad ShenShas influence Jupiter? Analyzing these factors gives insight into one’s potential for achievement and longevity.

There are also snapshot techniques within this system. For instance, if the Hour Pillar supports the Ming Gong pillar, this alignment is referred to as 天堂贵. For example, someone born in the 子 hour with 命宫 in 卯 has 子 water supporting 卯 wood. Depending on the element that’s supported, this could indicate the person’s influence in martial or academic affairs. Certain combinations involving this alignment can even denote noble titles, such as Kings or Dukes.

Please note that the Ming Gong I'm referring to is based on BaZi, not ZWDS. Few calculators are capable of calculating the BaZi Ming Gong, but MyBazi.com offers software that does.

Of course, this is just a glimpse into the layers of Ancient BaZi and QZSY. Hope this helps!

That's a good question and as i mentioned in my previous post the style of 八字 i was talking about predates 子平 ZiPing 八字.
So it does not use the DayMaster/DM as the center of the chart. The style of BaZi is also used in together with the QZSY 七政四余 Astrological Chart.

When you talk about 桃花, In QZSY Astrology it is called 咸池 it is basically the 沐浴 position of the 三合 Three combinations element.
For example 亥卯未 transforms to Wood. 甲 沐浴 is in 子. 子 is the 桃花/咸池. This Shensha in QZSY is derived from the year branch.

The ShenSha is derived is then used in the QZSY Chart. For Example if your MingGong is 子 and you were born in 亥 Year. That means 咸池 is in your MingGong(Ascendant) If your MingGong is in 午 then 咸池 would be in your Spouse palace 夫妻宫. Now depending on what planets and other ShenSha's are influencing this 咸池 we will know some characteristics of the Spouse and yourself.
For Example if Venus and Lilith is in the same house we can say the native(If in Mingong) or the Spouse(In 夫妻宫) has a very sexual and seductive nature.

Hope this helps.
