Long before I was using traditional way of Bazi .. and I was disappointed with the Resault.
I don't mention this openly to the forums .. I abandoned any effort to read Bazi charts ..
But now with MangPai course I start to believe the usefulness of this system ...!!
I think we must extract what is useful if want to make a progress on correct evaluation ..
But combining and learning as you mention is welcome and free for anyone wanting researches .
Thanks ..

A lot of people are still stuck on weak / strong DM narrative. Especially it doesn't work with Metal DMs, in their case is more about the purity of the Metal, not much about the strength.

I very much agree with that.
Any valid system out there should fit well and nice with other valid systems out there at least partially... As all of this is suppose to point is to how we functions, only situation when that can't happen is when one of the systems doesn't work.
In this specific case, if we look in traditional chart structure is usually evaluated by the leading stem in the month branch(for non special charts, anyway).
In some places by Month Commander/DHS, but that would often be similar or even the same.
At the same time we have the idea in Mang Pai that whatever is in the month has a Image of being large. We view it as stronger when evaluating gang strength or when evaluating damage etc.
End result - whatever has fundamental/big role in someones life would be often seen in the month in both.
Of course, there are exceptions(special charts etc.) but the general idea exists in both.
As if it didn't exist it both, would be sad, considering we can see it in life.
In traditional there would be a lot that comes out of that, as "real gods", "fake gods" and a lot of other stuff, so there may be differences from then on, but that first obvious step seems basically the same.
So I don't see why we wouldn't combine them. Its the same implications in both places.

I have developed my own algorithm for calculating the strength of each Element, with month dominating, and it works well for me.
This is the starting point of the algorithm
Hour 1.80
Day 3.50
Month 5.00
Year 2.70
Basically, I put more weight in the middle of the chart (day and month) and less weight on sides.
But on top of this, I implement combinations, stem influences, tombs (open / closed) the distance between pillars etc, so it gets rather complex.

I will agree with traditional Bazi vs MangPai Bazi. . about Monthy pillar determine the strength of other pillars ..
1. If take account only the stable pillars (of 60 Zia-Zi )
2. Not take account on unstable pillars (of 60 Zia-Zi )
But again there is a problem ..!!
This strength can determine only the pillar involved .. and not other pillars .. unless there is some connection (or combination) among them . !!
There is a logic about it .. and can be explained only by the principles of traditional Chinese medicine ..
Later on I will try to denote about it ..

I have shifted two posts into a new topic: Boris Johnson, the new UK Premier (http://fivearts.org/index.php?topic=783.msg5140;topicseen#msg5140)

I agree with evaluating gang strength. However, what plays the biggest role in someone's life can be in other pillars. For example, in Boris Johnson, the new UK Premier (http://fivearts.org/index.php?topic=783.msg5136#msg5136), the Year has the Authority/Power that is central to his life. Also David Cameron, another (prior) UK prime minister.
