Something interesting to note! In both divinations, the Officer lines in the base hexagram are the same: Officer+Tiger+Hai Water in the Li Palace. We know that Officer gives a hint on the nature of illness. Li is Fire = blood, infection. White Tiger also pertains to injury or cut. Could it be that he had a serious wound that led to blood loss and infection? In ancient times, injuries like this could be detrimental to life because antibiotics were not well developed yet.
Do you have a source foe li being blood? I use the body part eyes for li.

i missed milion miles from the right answer
when i saw the hexagram, i noted in sibling line bcoz i ever read that in illness divination it can represent immunity. then i thought if only fire became stronger, the disease (officer line) couldn't overcome it anymore :p
thanks for another lesson anyway
Isn't immunity rather a modern word?

Yes, I know one forumer here who burned incense prior to tossing the coins, but unfortunately she is no longer active in this divinatory art.
I do too and recite a longer incantation to the sages of the Yijing, at the altar of course.

That is incorrect, the yongshen here is the parent because the illness is the father's, so soil/earth you want strong and wood you want weak (jishen). I have seen systems (also ancient cases) where the ghost and child are the functional spirits.

« on: March 17, 2025, 08:11:06 AM »hi senior Tientai,Hi @Phoenix, the idea about clashing to move is a good one, and the principle 合處逢冲 is applicable (literally "meet clash when there is a combination"). But Zi is also the Hostile God for the Parent Star.
probably in Zi day? Zi clash Wu to move into Wei.
Chou also clashes to move, but it's not hostile for the Parent Star. That's why Chou Day was auspicious for the parent.
Clashing to move is also a principle that is used in Bazi.
In my books a clash does not mean the line is getting stronger but weakened (like a strong person exerting force to hold back a weaker one even that holding the upper hand), so chou clashing would weaken it in overall strength,... still agree on the reading. Of course a chou day is better for the parent line than a zi day, but clashing to break the meeting is equally applied. But one could also argue that for the earth the day phaseal strength (12 stages) does not apply. I would still say zi and chou are both valid.

Do you consider the transformed line as factoring in combinations （合) and do you have a classical quote for that.
I also wonder why you don't look at the day 12 phases, according to those soil/earth lines do not get a day phase associated.

I totally agree, do not convert time zones to Beijing time, China has one timezone!! Some even state that you should find out the real! time as our clocks are off in terms of wu being the zenith.

It contains almost no useable information about WWG, and seems to be a few pages just thrown into this book to show that he is aware of this system. It is one of the few books in my life, that I decided to trash after tea spilled on it.
Highly misleading.
I would strongly disadvise against The Clear-Cut I Ching or Wen Wang Gua for Beginners: Volume One - Master S.R.Chang.
It contains almost no useable information about WWG, and seems to be a few pages just thrown into this book to show that he is aware of this system. It is one of the few books in my life, that I decided to trash after tea spilled on it.
Highly misleading.
