Here is an article that I wrote many years ago, for my students. It is an information enlightening them about understanding the word XuanKong.
Most of my students had learnt FengShui from other masters, and I found out that they have very low knowledge of the Fundamentals and also because they do not know Chinese, their knowledge and understanding of certain terms in Metaphysics is very limited.
The article is as follows:
THE MEANING OF XUAN KONG 玄空
The word Xuan Kong 玄空, to many people might conjure up the thought of XuanKong Flying Stars Fengshui or XuanKong DaGua Fengshui.
This is understandable, because I found out from my interactions with foreign students, that, they have a very shallow understanding of the fundamental theories and principles of Chinese Metaphysics.
One of the ‘shallow understanding’ is that of the word XuanKong 玄空. It is understandable because the concept of XuanKong is very difficult to describe in plain words. It had even stumped many Oriental ‘masters’.
Here is a quote about the difficulty of understanding the word XuanKong玄空:
世人不见天机秘,浅破有何益, 泄今博深地中仙,玄空妙难言
Humans could not see the secrets of heaven,
What then, is the use of lightly leaking (the truth)?
Now to reveal the intrinsic essence to the Earth saints (Fengshui masters),
The word XuanKong is profoundly mystical and difficult to express.
Here I shall explain the word Xuan Kong玄空:
• Xuan 玄—can mean, black and mysterious, or profound.
• Kong 空—can mean emptiness, voidness, space, sky, air, etc….
When these two words are coined together, as 玄空, and used in Chinese Metaphysics, and, as it has appeared in many ancient writings of Metaphysics Classics, it conjures up a meaning of the – ‘Profound and Mysterious Voidness of the Space of the Universe’.
So, in future, whenever you come across this word XuanKong玄空, you would know it has the meaning as mentioned above.
What is the function of XuanKong in Burial Fengshui?
When burial, the idea is to bury or store the person’s body DNA in an auspicious place to absorb the good Qi, that, in turn is transmitted back to the person via the Mysterious Void called the Xuan Kong 玄空.
