a question about learning

What do you think about the feng shui, ba zi, et al courses that you have taken? What do you think is missing from the teaching/learning process?

I never actually joined a full course, for bazi of feng shui... From what I have observed around some of the big schools out there are doing good work, but...

I don't know.
Comparing it to Inner Alchemy or TCM, there seems to be problems with bazi and feng shui in the English speaking world.
There are tons of materials for the first 2, very deep view to them as well. And almost nothing like that for bazi of Feng Shui.

I don't know why that is, I have theories, but nothing clear yet... As they aren't easier, if something TCM is even more complex. Isn't cheaper. Can't say the results are faster to be seen, either.

Anyway, JY and his many students seems to be doing good job, although that is how it looks from outside, haven't been in a course there, either, so can't be sure, but it looks solid.
Jlim of course has mangpai course and what we have seen in the open there has been very good, possibly the course is as well.

Other then that can't really comment. My focused moved out of bazi and feng shui years ago to inner alchemy, TCM and other systems outside Five Arts, so I may watch a video, make some simple calculator or read a post sometimes, but far, far away from joining a course now, or deeply observing the field like before, so no idea if there is something new. I see people have posted many new videos in youtube, but haven't watched most.

Thanks for your reply Gmuli.
It seems that most FS/BZ courses are very superficial, focusing on formulaic teaching rather than the depth of information. Perhaps the depth comes with time. Most people want quick solutions and a certificate. 🤷‍♀️

@jinbojin ,

The depth that you seek can easily be found online, especially if you understand Chinese.
Nowadays with YouTube, the internet....almost everything you want to know can be dug out.
Of course, having some foundation can help understand the concepts better.
So taking a course can be a start, then the hard work of in-depth research for greater understanding comes after that.

If you need explanations on any concepts, you can always post here in this forum.
I am sure there will be knowledgeable ones who are willing to share.

jinbojin:

Well, I'm sure they are well meaning... But meanwhile we could help with something not clear in the material out there. Feel free to ask if you have questions, between all of us here I think we should be able to form an interesting discussion. Coz chart reading is awesome for learning, but it has limits for many reasons(its called 'overfitting' in machine learning). Sometimes it just needs good old theory to know where to look. : )
