Yes she was close with his mother. I know she really cried when she was murdered quite recently. Now just recently his father died of drug overdoses and his gf was very well with him too although I did not see her crying shortly after. But is not the father who raised him.
About his relationship with his mother I don' t know all I know is he grew up in a nice house in a very expensive neighbourhood.

Sounds like a heavy story... And it seems like his mother connected them(Mao combines both with Xu and Wei) at the same time closing them and again falling in Wei, so very complex relationship with him.
Then Wu <> Mao destruction happens, along with Geng clashing Jia in the other representation of mother, people around will make it difficult for his mother, even more so considering all wood falls in Wei with the way I view it...
