Longitude & Timezone Database
« on: December 04, 2023, 05:26:36 PM »
Hey All,

On the .info site, I started a latitude and time zone database post. It would contain information for geographic areas where members ask for readings.
The purpose is to save time when plotting a chart that may need time adjustments. The other thing I wanted to include was an approximate time adjustment, so members could determine if an adjustment was actually needed.
On the .info site, I had the ability to change my previous post. This would have made it easy for me to maintain a single post that I could continually update.

1) Would this be a helpful thing to have here?
2) Do members have a better way of doing this?

Thanks,

Ren

Daylight Savings has been on and off in many places...
And 1 hour(more in some places) is a lot...

So easier to use a website/calculator?
Or you mean for day to day stuff?

Hey Gmuli,

The only web calculator that does all the work is the paid version of bazi-calculator.
And yes, you are right, Daylight Saving Time and in some cases GMT gets bounced around at sometimes.
In general, I know that Western and European countries use DLT. Most East-Asian countries do not. So it may be something to add as a flag.

My intention was to make a generic lookup table for common cities / countries with longitude, GMT and approximate time correction.
Then I can easily determine if time correction is needed, I can maybe do an approximate time correction or have the information need to apply to a bazi-calculator;
without having to duplicate the process each time I look at a chart.

We have it, though?
Don't even have to worry about Daylight Saving as it will check what year you have added and adjust it based on the place and when it was added or removed there.

Currently here:

Add date. Click place. Check what it says at "Solar Time".

A Simple Way to Calculate Solar Time Corection!
« Reply #4 on: December 04, 2023, 08:02:46 PM »
Hey Gmuli,

In the Islands, they say, “two coconuts are better than one!”.

I think your solution works. Maybe you can write up something to be posted on this site as a sticky.
This is an easy way to calculate time correction!

For those reading this:
1) https://bright-hall.net/xkfx/solarcompass
2) Enter date of birth and time. Date selector box at top of page.
3.a) On upper right corner of map, click on magnifying glass.
3.b) Enter city and country. Press enter.
4) Corrected Solar Time is at top left of map.
Done!

I don't know how to embed images, please click on link for screenshot -> https://fivearts.org/fileserver/image/iWPk

Sure, that is it! : )
Also if currently in the city one was born in, doesn't even have to find it on map, can just click "Find My Location(Slow) and it will find where they are with accuracy of 1 m in cities and I think around 5m outside in the country.
Takes 1 minute or something, however.
Although that sends a lot of information to google, so if one is careful of privacy, may want to find the place manually, on the map.

Some time ago I posted the Solar Time part of the codes as fully open source(in other parts of the site, our code is still open, but CC, so have to mention source, while they were fully free to use).
The idea here is if programmers want to start making five arts apps, they have solid free open source base for one of the most challenging calculations in bazi, in very streamlined way.

Its on the home page under "Our Solar Time Scripts release..." with explanation what is used.

But, currently, I don't think there is much interest. Later, if all becomes more used, may make github or some alternative account where projects can develop with people working on it etc. We thought about api as well, and all sorts of other stuff, but again - just not enough people on that, to be worth the effort.

P.S. About the bazi site, if weclick Settings there is menu that shows where all can be disabled, number, translation and pinyin of all stars.
By the way in there I added all months and years stems and branches of LP, just have to click on the numbers above each LP to see it. : )

About the rest - I do agree, there is much I would like to change there, as well. But lost contact with Ani, somewhere along the way, so doesn't seem fair to change what she agreed on and still point out to her material, so much.

I thought someday, if we have enough new stuff to set will make another bazi calculator, that will be much simpler, but much easier for use and both can stay on the site. But not sure that is great idea, as well, as I do like the stars, lately... So overall it became too messy, to sort out now. So we added/changed as much as seemed fair.

But again - the solar scripts are open source, you can make your own calculator, our bazi site code(CC) is also open source, so if you mention the site can copy/paste whatever you want in there and use even commercially.

np  I added some LP, but lately there is a lot going on so not a lot of time to test it.

Anyway, can't select them manually, but if you click LP below they should align with it. Also should work from the second selector, based on date of birth from original.
We also have" change log" now, so people can follow along with changes made, in some cases(on home page down).
