Hi Como,

Look up how to throw a hexagram for divination.
Follow the instruction and post the hexagram and your question again.

Thanks,

ren

Thank you for replying. I have use my coins for Iching.

My question is: Should my child give up this school with a confirmed offer for the possibility of entering other schools she has in mind?

I got:

Hey Como,

A question for clarification:
Are you asking the question - Is this your concern?
Or is this your daughter's question?

What was the day of your casting, 10/6 or 10/7?

Thanks,

ren

This is both our concerns. We have about 2 weeks to reply this school.

She is still considering all her options and no one knows what's the best way forward for now.

And as for posting here to ask, it is my idea and she doesn't know about it.

Hi !
I think members may have difficult time reading this. The reason is... Well, yes and no question usually require some sort of set up. In the sense of preparation to receive the answer in specific way, like a agreement between you and the system how the information will be presented.

For example, you can set the far away school to be upper trigram and closer one to be lower trigram. Then wherever the Other line falls is what will be better.
That , however carries all sorts of challenges as well. As when we say "better" what does that mean... A school may be better for learning, but worse for social relations... May be good for health, but very bad for future perspectives etc.
So a general "better" leaves a lot of unknowns and practice shows that "better" would only be valid until the next sign we get, that may show the opposite.

Considering all that, much nicer approach is when you have 2 options to ask 2 questions and make 2 hexagrams. One is what will happen if she joins one of the schools, the other what will happen if she joins the other school
Even then it still has too have a focus, that means you can ask "how happy she will be if she joins...", or "how well she will learn..." etc. As otherwise the answer is left to the system... And sometimes that answer may be suppose to be overwritten by next sign one will get.

Summary: If you see members aren't reading it, that can often be because of the way its formated. In this case, may work much nicer if you have 2 hexagrams one for each school and you also choose a focus, what you find more important. We often ask "how happy we will be if we do..." then look at the Offspring line or general state of lines.

Thank you for your reply and explanation. My question is indeed vague.

The situation is like this: She has an offer from a school and her results won't matter as long as she accepts the offer. If she does, she will not be able to change the school for at least 4 years. This school is also situated far away from our new house.

We have in mind another school and it is much nearer with a harder to get in score. This will be ideal in terms of location, academic standard  (in terms of the stream she will enter) and also interest. If she misses the scores to enter this school, there are other schools with the same stream too with compromises in other areas. And the worst case scenario is that she doesn't achieve the scores to enter all these schools, she will probably enter other schools that offer even less than the 1st school that has already confirmed a place for her.

So, we are unsure if we should reject the 1st school offer.

I shall cast another hexagram then asking if she will regret if she joins the 1st school. And 1 more hexagram if it will be better for her socially and academically/future prospects if she joins another one.

Hope these questions are more suitable.

Thank you for your explanation. I have always tried to interpret icing divination myself and find it very confusing. I gather that it is not meant for yes and no questions now.

Regarding the taking time to think it through, it is what we are currently doing. And this relates to my older child, not my younger one.

It is indeed a decision that we are all finding it hard to make. We (the parents) are more keen at the moment to leave the final decision to my child after laying out all the options as she will be the one attending school for the next few years. It is important to us that she owns the decision and also learns along the way to weigh options and to access the risk/consequences of choices.

If you were to ask me, my feeling tend towards giving up the 1st school with the confirmed option but I feel that it is not my sole decision to make this time. :)

I have casted for the 2 questions:

1) Will my child regret if she joins the 1st school?

_____                         _____
_____                         _____
_____                         _____
_____    changing to    _____
__ __                          _____
_____                         _____
   13            ->               1

2) Will it be better for her future prospects, academically and socially if she joins other schools?

__ __                           _____
__ __                           __ __
__ __      changing to    __ __
__ __                           __ __
__ __                           __ __
__ __                           __ __
  2                 ->               23

OK, so "Will she regrets..."?

We assume the daughter is either on Self or on Other line.
Other line is Offsrping Line very strong in the month. It carries images of azure dragon(something potentially going right) and is carries also images of Child/Offspring. That can show indication of lack of regret or worry, as Child attacks Officer, usually showing worries and possibly regrets carried on.

Self line is very weak. Very, very weak. That can show lack of choice in the situation. If you have decided to let her decide that may be the reason. That is probably wise idea.

Second line ismoving. Its another child/offspring line, but this one is in void. It moves to very weak Parent line and returning restrictions. Someone may regret it, at home. And that may lead to lack of choices for them.

So summary depending how you think about the question, are you aprt of the situation, are you asking for her, and stuff like that:
1.If she is on other line - she will not regret it. But there is some problem at home, may mean she will not regret it as far as the school is concerned but may regret it because of some change related to her home.
2.If she is on Self - awful hexagram for that, Self is in very bad state, if she is on Self(meaning you ask for her, without adding your role in the situation) then that is definitly one of the worse possible developments the system can show I think.
3. If she is on line 2, meaning the system is showing her as Offspring/Child(since she is your daughter). Again bad, Curved Array is lack of choice, Void Offspring lines moves to returning restriction and changes to very weak Parent line. That can show worry.

If she is on Other line then she may not have regrets, but a lot of other people likely will be in bad position from that choice.
If she is on one of the other 2 lines, then that specific development is definitly difficult to recommend, both lines are in very bad state.

"Will it be better if she joins other schools?"

This time Self in very strong Child/Offspring lines. It again turns to Yin Wood very weak in day and month.
Much nicer, although still not great.

Summary:
1. If she is on Self line - its not very good, it will start well, but then she may start to take stuff too seriously or have problem with teachers there.
2. If she is on other line - this is very weak, but reasonably acceptable. Mao combines with Xu, so there may be part of the structure there she may enjoy. May have problems with family(her line clashed by your line), but that will change with time as your line move. Have to be noted her line brakes, however, that is also wise to be avoided if possible.

Overall , second choice looks better, but still has problems. There are still problems, but first one has some very scary lines, while second one her line is broken, that is bad, but later on may become supported, also its broken by your line, so you can adjust that going forward, as you can change your line most of the time.

Recommendations:
Without setting up where she would be we can't really be sure. But to be fair in the first hexagram there are so many problems, I would avoid that path if it was me. Second hexagram both lines aren't in great health and one is even broken...

That being said leaving her to choose seems wise. We already havehexagram where your line clashes hers, possibly, so letting her choose can fix if there is tension with that. In the second hexagram the relation between Self and other line is the major problem braking the other line, if she is on the other line, that may be good to look at.

As Ren said - don't take it too seriously, there is limit how much can be done through forums and even then wrong readings happen even with perfect setting. That being said, as I mention -if it was me I would look for other choices. If there are no other choices, second path seems better, but then if you are on Self and she is on Other line, then have to find why your line brakes hers.
