Question - Useful God
Good for wealth - Asset.
Good for people/patients - Child or Sibling
Good for knowledge - Resource
Good for carrier or status/authority- Officer I guess
Good by itself... Useful god - ?!?!?!
Of course something may cost us $ yet we can learn valuable stuff, that is by definition most courses, yet saying every possible course is bad, because it will cost us money is silly...
So we can read without the other stuff based on relation to the Useful God, we do it all the time if you look around the forum, we do need the Useful God, to be clear, however. : )

I meant something else, but doesn't matter. In short and on the question - we do use controlling cycle too, that is where line "attacking" other lines, or weakening other line come from etc. : )
We don't always use the relation to the Focus, like hostile/avenger for the line taht has element of attacking it and stuff like that... As usually there is more important aspect of the line that is there and we look at that instead(for example Child will always attack the Officer, while Officer will always attack the element of the hexagram, so much of these is somewhat fixed to the relations as well).
