This man before received a favor from a major minister. Passed the [civil] examination as talent of the first grade. Later, because of his circumstances, still not yet employed.
今有選才能之缺。意欲遞呈。又因督勦之官。亦討才能。隨營補用。故不敢遞。
Currently there is in [the government?s] selection of talent, a vacancy. He desires to submit a petition [for it]. Yet because supervising military officials are also asking for talent to fill their camps with additional recruits was the reason [why he did] dare not to submit [a petition].
予曰。尔已禱告。指此缺而問神。神許之而必得。旺官生世。再無他去之理。
I said: ?You already prayed, pointing to the vacancy, asking spirits. Spirits predict that you certainly obtain. Prosperous Officer producing Subject. Again, without you going [away] pattern.?
只因寅午戌三合官局。內少寅字。須待寅日具呈。管許必得此缺。
Yet because Yin(t)-Wu(h)-Xu Three Combine Officer structure inside has missing Yin(t) character, must wait until Yin(t) day to furnish petition. Predict that he is certain to obtain vacant [role].
果于寅日遞呈。特簡題用。此應虛一以待用也。
Result: On Yin(t) day, submitted petition. [Later received] special letter, rank-title employment. This response is about timing?s use.
