I don't know if I understood well it.  Are we supposed to recite that sentence / prayer as literal as it is written, paragraph by paragraph?
@Tientai

It doesn't seem like a prayer but rather an explanation of why to burn incense.

Coaxing Spirits with incantation while incense burn ..!!

I will give it a try it! . The ritual is important, even if one does not believe in it, they are factors that affect the accuracy of the answers.  Maybe it has to do with what is named "chaos magic".  Thanks for sharing Tientai.

Yes, I start simply using it  and now I believe on it the most ... !!
Trust and Reverence are important factors on making "Divinations"...
BTW Daoist incence ceremony has a special form to communicate with "Spirits ".. and can seen on the waving of incence smoke when is burning. .!!  Perhaps I will post it in another Topic .!!

Tt.

Dongbao (Coin toss) -- Hi Tientai, could you write the Chinese characters for Dongbao?  Did you mean 銅拋?

Yes, I know one forumer here who burned incense prior to tossing the coins, but unfortunately she is no longer active in this divinatory art.

I do too and recite a longer incantation to the sages of the Yijing, at the altar of course.
